At Bytown Psychological Services, located in Ottawa, Canada, I provide assessment and counselling services to families, children and adults. I have been practicing since 1995 in both the private and public sector. I work with a variety of disorders including anxiety, depression, divorce issues, relationship difficulties, parenting challenges, identity and self-esteem issues. I also have over 15 years in psychological and psycho-educational assessment experience.
I take an integrative approach to psychotherapy, combining elements of cognitive-behavioural, solution-focused, interpersonal, and experiential treatment strategies. I work with my clients to help them learn new approaches to dealing with difficult emotions and help them to form healthy and meaningful relationships with other people. I believe in a collaborative approach to therapy, working in partnership with my clients to empower them to work toward their own healing and mental health. I strive to establish a genuine and empathic relationship with clients, and believe healing can only take place in an environment of trust and safety. I enjoy working with people of different backgrounds, and feel it is important to view and respect each person as a unique individual.

Online Counselling
In today’s world of constant change and increased stress, more and more people are finding professional counselling services on the Internet. For many, Online Counselling, Cybercounselling or E-Counselling, is becoming an increasingly acceptable way to seek help in dealing with the pressures of daily living. There are many reasons that people prefer to have their counselling sessions online.
This could be because you have:
- Mobility problems and find it difficult to travel.
- Anxiety causes you difficulty in leaving home
- You work long or awkward hours
- You live in a remote area
- You care for someone and it isn’t possible to leave them unattended.
- You have small children and are unable to leave them unattended
In addition to working with people in the Ottawa area, I am also increasingly working with clients who live outside the area. Using Skype it is now possible to conduct face-to-face online sessions for those who meet the criteria. As communication through Skype is fully encrypted, your privacy is always protected.
If you are interested in doing therapy services via online video conferencing, please fill out the form below for a free 20 minute consultation. Please indicate that you would like a Skype appointment and I will contact you to set up a convenient time for both of us.
During this free consultation we will also agree on:
- Time and date for next session (generally these are agreed at each session)
- How often we will meet on Skype
- The length of our sessions (generally one hour)
- Confidentiality
- Payment method (I accept PayPal, Visa and Mastercard payments)
I look forward to hearing from you.
Ali Goldfield, M.A. (psych)
